Dental Cleanings
Even a perfect home oral care routine cannot remove calculus that causes gum disease and tooth decay.
Regular dental visits are essential to maintain your oral and overall health. Cleanings with your hygienist will remove calculus which causes inflammation that can have detrimental effects on your health.
A dental cleaning removes plaque, calculus and staining that cannot be removed with regular home care. In addition, during a cleaning appointment, your hygienist will update your dental radiographs and perform an exam to catch decay and other oral health conditions in the earliest stages. Preventative care performed at cleaning appointment not only maintains oral and overall health, but also may eliminate the need for more costly dental treatment in the future.
The frequency with which one must have a dental cleaning is dependent on a patient’s propensity to build up calculus and debris. A cleaning is recommended at least every six months for many patients. However, some patients, who are more at risk for building up calculus require cleanings every three to four months. The hygiene team at Brooklyn Dental Studio will assess your risk factors and design a dental hygiene program and cleaning frequency that fits your oral health needs.
During the dental cleaning your hygienist will review and update your dental and medical history. An intra-oral exam will be performed, during which your hygienist will examine the health of the teeth, gum tissue, and supporting bone.
When appropriate radiographs will be taken. Radiographs are able to detect caries and other conditions that cannot be seen with normal visual inspection. They are key to early diagnosis which can prevent pain and costly dental treatment.
During the dental cleaning, your hygienist will use an ultrasonic scaler and hand instruments to remove hard debris. Upon completion, she will polish your teeth to remove staining.
Regular dental cleanings are essential to preventing dental disease and maintaining your overall health. Inflammation from dental disease has been linked to other serious health conditions, including cardiovascular disease, stroke, and diabetes.
I was looking for a new dentist in the Brooklyn area and Dr. Wolfe and her hygienist were wonderful. I was seen almost immediately, my teeth were excellently cleaned (after being long overdue for an appointment), and Dr. Wolfe was friendly, professional, and fast! I would highly recommend for anyone looking for a dentist in the Brooklyn area!
