Arestin Treatment

Arestin is a slowly released antibiotic that is placed between the tooth and gums. It removes the bacteria that leads to inflammation of the gums and periodontal disease.

Arestin is an antibiotic that is placed between the tooth and gums to help fight bacteria that causes periodontal disease.  If left untreated, periodontal disease can lead to bone and even tooth loss.  Arestin combined with visits to the dentist for scaling and root planing has been shown to be the most effective treatment for periodontal disease.

Arestin is required for patients displaying signs and symptoms of periodontal disease. This may include increased pocket depth around teeth, gingival inflammation, or bleeding during brushing or flossing. Bone loss and loose teeth are signs of more severe periodontal disease. If diagnosed with periodontal disease, the Brooklyn Dental Studio team with discuss the best treatment protocol to maintain your periodontal health and provide the optimal long-term prognosis.

Arestin is typically placed during an appointment that includes scaling and root planning. The scaling and root planning, or deep cleaning, is meant to remove the calculus that can not be removed with regular home care. Once the surfaces between the teeth and gum have been cleaned, Arestin is placed using a small plunger. The procedure takes a few seconds and is painless.

Periodontal disease is a serious condition. If left untreated, periodontal disease can lead to tooth or bone loss. The effects of severe periodontal disease are irreversible and can require invasive surgical treatment. Furthermore, the inflammation resulting from gingivitis and periodontal disease has been shown to increase risk for other health conditions, like heart disease, stroke, and even pregnancy complication. Hence, early treatment with a periodontal protocol that includes Arestin will prevent serious health conditions and eliminate costly treatment.

I was really impressed and very comfortable and at ease with this visit. Everyone made me feel comfortable from the receptionist to the dental hygienist to Dr Wolfe herself. Excellent Bedside Manner and did not make me feel ashamed for not taking better care of my teeth and for not going to the dentist in over 10 years. If you are looking for a dentist Dr. Wolfe is the perfect one to visit.
